Background
Dr Sun graduated from Beihang University (or Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) in both Aircraft Design (BEng) and Applied Mathematics (BSc). He then started Ph.D. study in Aircraft Design at Beihang University and then obtained a full scholarship from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) to pursuit his Ph.D. at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½. After graduation, he became a post-doctoral research assistant at Tsinghua University, where he was awarded the Fellowship of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. He then rejoined ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ as a Research Fellow and then promoted to Lecturer. Dr Sun is a member of the RAeS (Royal Aeronautical Society) and AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Fellow of UK Higher Education Association (FHEA). Dr Sun is the UK national record holder for longest distance paper aeroplane and runner-up of the Red Bull Paper Wings international paper aeroplane competition.
Research opportunities

• Multidisciplinary Design Optimisation
• Next-generation Supersonic Transport Design
• Alternative Fuels for Advanced Configurations
• CFD & Surrogate Model for Aircraft Conceptual Design
Current activities
Yicheng is currently working on the GENUS aircraft conceptual design environment. GENUS is a multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization environment that has been developing in the Aircraft Design Group since 2012. GENUS has been applied to the conceptual design of hypersonic launchers and transports, conventional and blended-wing-body airliners, supersonic transports, tailless combat UAVs. There are ongoing projects under development in GENUS. Yicheng is now leading the development of GENUS and cooperating with other researchers to their projects.
