Ever laid in bed and thought you know what, I'm not going  to training today, it's windy and it's cold?

Well I did one day, It was after my Olympic games in late 1996 early 1997, I was never one to use an alarm, never late to training and never late on the water.

Then my new preparation was to be one of the best athletes in the world in paddling, I had done the hard yards and now I wanted to be better then I had ever been before.

So late in 1996 I woke up and looked out the window to see what the weather was like, to see if it was to cold or to windy, I believed it was, so I went back to bed.

At the selection titles that season I missed making the team by 1/100th of a second.

I deserved to miss the team, WHY because I wasn't the the athlete I dreamed of any more. I had lost the edge.

It dose MATTER.

Because after you miss one session you think it's OK, then you miss another and another, then you have to ask yourself the question.

What am I doing this for in the first place.

Life is the same,

You think it's OK to:

Leave work early, then you come in late, then you wonder why didn't I get that promtion.

It does MATTER.

So when you go to get up for training in the morning don't look out the window, don't worry if it's, raining or windy, your race could be like that.

If you don't train in the heat, wind, rain and extreme conditions, what are you going to do on race day,PULL OUT.

Is it OK to bludge the middle part of training?

Is it OK to sit on the wash every session?

Is it OK to miss a few sessions of the program?

Is it OK to use cross training as an excuse to chat with your mates?

Add all these things up.

How quickly they add up to lost days, months and sessions. Look at this quick look at a training year on lost sessions This is before you waste  the other sessions.

7 mth training block.

2 weeks off after and during Xmas

2 weeks off due to sickness [ that's at best ]

2 weeks off for family, work or study.

2 weeks off by just being run down and unable to train to your best.
